Whether it's Eames, Saarinen, or Bertoia, you can find a direct knock-off to their most famous pieces, particularly in the chairs, dining chairs and seating departments.  I have the Saarinen tulip chair knock-off and I LOVE IT.  It's very obvious with these pieces exactly who they are shamelessly knocking off, but really, if you want the look without going broke, and you're not obsessed with "collecting" authentic MCM furniture, then why not?  Every single one of these pieces have a 4 - 5 star review rating from buyers.

Now that my nieces and nephews are older, my son is hanging out with them and not feeling like the baby.  I happen to live at one of the most beautiful beach hamlets in the world and my family has been spending a lot of time with us.  East Hampton is a gorgeous place, whatever the season.  But there is something magical about it during the hot summer months when all you do is roll out of bed, head to beach, or just sip margaritas on your deck.

I realized that something was missing.  Although the deck table and chairs were fine, illuminated by Christmas lights by dusk.  But there really was no where to lounge.  So I began to search for what I thought was necessary for next summer:  The Outdoor Sectional.

Alas, my budget - and conscience - would not allow me to spend $2 - $5K on one, not when I put any extra moneys I have into either our vacation savings (February is hell out here), and Kyle's college fund.  And I'm all about the hunt anyway.  I love a good bargain, whether I have the money or not so much at the time.

As much as I cringe when I think about Walmart's politics, I decided to see if they might have one that I could purchase without jeopardizing my goals for VaCa or Kyle's future.  To my surprise, they had EXACTLY what I had been looking for.  And for only $498!  Then I shuddered... what were the reviews going to be?  They were fantastic!  Then I remembered the unethical ways Walmart gets prices so low... but this was FSC-certified: the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world's forests. "By choosing an FSC product, you can be confident that you are protecting the forests by not contributing to the destruction of them."  My guilt quickly dissipated.  I purchased the Delahey 6-Piece Sectional Set With Natural Cushions.

I really love the way Ikea creates the vignettes of actual spaces.  Some of them are really stunning, some are very "dorm-room."  I especially enjoyed the dining-rooms that were set for shoppers.  Here are my two favorites:

Here's a really neat way to bring a lot of pop to a teenager's wall by using some simple frames and a copier machine:

I also purchased the child version of the "Pello" chair.  Kyle (he's 6) loves to play his Xbox 360 in it!  It's the perfect size for a 6 year old and it still looks good enough to be in a modern interior setting.

I'm looking to rip out all of my high wall kitchen cabinets and will be installing a bunch of new Ikea versions which will include a pull-out pantry (it's huge), and standards with glass doors.  I really liked these:

The kitchen I am planning will have a lot of stainless steel.  So, of course, I loved their display with the stainless steel backsplash.  It looks very clean and easy on the eyes.

When I am working on my kitchen, I will go ahead and get these for behind the door for some added stainless steel storage:

Shelving also looked hot, even the ever-present "Billy" bookshelves.  Now they are offering gorgeous glass doors in various designs to match any decor possible.

And I still like the ladder shelves, which now come in a wide variety of colors.  I think these would look fabulous in a child or tween's room.

I noticed also that Ikea were experimenting with different wall treatments.  I was particularly attracted to their "orange" wallpapers.  Here's one that I thought looked very clean and modern:

The stripey trend of theirs also extended straight through to their ambient lighting series.

Here are some other varieties that I found quite lovely.  Again, Ikea can take a simple idea and re-skin them for any interior style - from country to stark modern.

As usual, I left thinking I had everything I needed.  Then I realized I forgot the kitchen cart and a number of other things I really needed/wanted.  I guess that means I'll have to make another trip really soon - Yippeeee!!!
