While I love to cook, and have an assortment of Wusthof and J.A. Henckles knives in my drawer, I can honestly say that I have never really been too excited about a particular knife. That is, until yesterday when UPS delivered my new Kyocera ceramic knife. I bought it from GIlt a while ago, and let’s be honest. I only got it because it was orange. First thing I noticed taking it out of the package is that the blade is actually white, something that’s hard to see in the pictures. The second thing I noticed, is that it is wicked sharp. I mean, really really sharp. Apparently ceramic knives hold their edge much longer than steel knives, and when it does dull, you can send it back to Kyocera and for $10 they return it to you as sharp as the day you bought it. Color me impressed.

Sure, you can can get a Nike+ SportsWatch, or a simply pair an iPod nano with Nike+, but those looking to use their iPod nano as a watch with Nike+ have so far been left with few options beyond the DIY route. Watch band-maker HEX now looks set to change that, however, with its new Sports Watch Band that's set to debut in April. As you can see above, there's not a whole lot too it -- just a reasonably stylish wristband with a "port" that's able to accommodate the Nike+ attachment. No word on a price just yet, nor is there any indication that it will come in colors other than white -- though that seems a safe bet if the company's previous watch band is any indication.

The last century saw no shortage of disputes between the French and the Germans, but in this century everything's going to be totally cool. BMW and PSA Peugeot Citroën, the company that quite naturally owns the Peugeot and Citroën marques, have come to form a partnership focused on the creation of advanced hybrid systems. The name for this new partnership? BMW Peugeot Citroën Electrification, quite naturally. The fruit of this holy union will be better battery packs, generators, and electronics that will not only help the manufacturers that have joined together here, but will also be sold to other manufacturers who need a little help from their friends. We'll have to wait a little while before we see any results, though: actual components aren't expected to hit the road until 2014 at the earliest -- coincidently about 100 years since things got awfully testy at Alsace-Lorraine.

The Verizon iPhone 4 is an interesting product for Engadget to review. Firstly, it's not exactly a new device (not in any outwardly noticeable way). From design, down to its CPU, RAM, and even cost, this iPhone is the same as the AT&T model... save for that one small but really important thing: it's got a CDMA radio inside. The device is also somewhat tricky to review based on its software, since we've all been using (and even took a deep look at) iOS 4.2 for quite some time. So for us the task is to make clear the differences between these two devices and their networks. Now that's a little easier, because we're sure you have the same questions as us. What are calls like? How are the data rates? Is service notably improved or different than AT&T's? I guess the steadfast rule that third party Wii accessories have to suck has just been broken. Paul Govan, self-professed Wii Sports table tennis addict and writer for Game People, recently reviewed this paddle accessory from an unnamed Chinese manufacturer. Now unlike most table tennis accessories it’s not just some plastic add-on monstrosity that makes it look like your Wiimote is a paddle. It’s actually a paddle shaped controller that has all the Wii electronic-y bits inside, including Motion Plus, that ends up providing a very realistic and satisfying playing experience.

Then, I found a manufacturer in China who was prototyping a new Wii Bat. Not an extension to a Wii-mote but a replacement for it. This ingenious device not only houses the standard Wii controls in a Table Tennis Bat housing but also packs in Motion Plus.

After convincing them to send me one, and opening the jiffy bag, I was pleased to find the build quality was substantial. The bat had a similar weight distribution to it’s non-electronic counterpart. It came with a battery and charger and replicates all the features of Wii-mote and MotionPlus perfectly.

But most impressive it the added sense of connection it adds to Wii-Sports Table Tennis. Holding a controller so similar to the real thing – you could actually play real table tennis with it – you are instantly in the right frame of mind to engage wit the game.

There’s no word on if or when this accessory will ever be available worldwide, but he encourages readers to comment on his review in hopes the manufacturer will seek out an international distributor.

I’m going to cut these magic wand controlled electronic candles some slack because a) Hallowe’een, the best holiday ever second only to Christmas, is just around the corner and they’d probably be great for a party and b) another Harry Potter film will be released later this year and all you wannabe wizards need to get your fix somehow. I’m not sure if it’s from the same people who make the Kymera Magic Wand universal TV remote (I’m going to assume it is) but the idea is generally the same. You can turn the candle on with just a flick of the wand, or turn it off with a little wiggle. They can also be magically set to flicker and flash, and if your wand goes missing can even be extinguished by just blowing them out. Here’s a clip of them in action courtesy of Shiny Shiny:

They’re currently available in a set that includes one candle and one magic wand from Firebox (UK based) for ~$54 (£34.99).

They’re not quite as small as your standard earbud-style headphones just yet, but these wireless Bluetooth earbuds from Logitec are getting pretty darn close. As usual it’s those damn batteries that make up most of the bulk, but these manage to come in at just 0.24 inches thick and weigh only 9 grams while still getting around 4 hours of easy listening on a single charge. Not a whole day, but what you lose in battery life you gain in your ears not hurting after wearing these for a few hours. They’ll sync to your mobile phone for hands-free calling too, and it looks like there’ll be three distinct versions when available: the LBT-MPHP02 for mobile phones, the LBT-AVHP02 for BT capable audio devices and the LBT-PCHP02 for use with PCs. ~$52 (¥ 4,480)
