The Verizon iPhone 4 is an interesting product for Engadget to review. Firstly, it's not exactly a new device (not in any outwardly noticeable way). From design, down to its CPU, RAM, and even cost, this iPhone is the same as the AT&T model... save for that one small but really important thing: it's got a CDMA radio inside. The device is also somewhat tricky to review based on its software, since we've all been using (and even took a deep look at) iOS 4.2 for quite some time. So for us the task is to make clear the differences between these two devices and their networks. Now that's a little easier, because we're sure you have the same questions as us. What are calls like? How are the data rates? Is service notably improved or different than AT&T's? Most importantly, if you're currently a frustrated iPhone 4 owner, does it make sense to make the switch? The aptly named Be-Green Houses prove it really is easy being Green, and it can be done in total comfort and style. This pair of contemporary house plans incorporates all the essentials into a colorful, bright design. Some spaces, such as the laundry and terrace, are designed as shared spaces, while others are conventional by all accounts – apart from their amazing eco-friendly appeal. These eco house designs incorporate passive solar technologies, and use natural and recycled materials such as the hardwood flooring with VOC-free finishes. Photovoltaic roof panels and a thermal hot water system allow these sustainable houses to function off the grid, while the green roof and a living wall do their part keep the environment while adding an organic ambience to the urban houses. And because learning is the key to enlightenment and, in the long run, change, this home features a monitoring system that tells residents exactly how much energy they’re using and when, allowing them to adjust their consumption. Sunday I moseyed over to DUMBO and BKLYN DESIGNS™. Lest you forget, the event is "New York’s hottest exhibition of designers and manufacturers of contemporary furnishings, lighting, and accessories made and/or designed in Brooklyn, all handpicked by a jury of editors from leading design and shelter magazines."

This is the show's seventh year but my first visit. Taking place in St. Ann's Warehouse, the 37 booths were basically spread across two large spaces, with a 38th at Jane's Carousel down the street. The exposed roof joists and decking lend the exhibition a very Brooklyn air, separating it from expos like next week's ICFF at Jacob Javits. The furniture and other objects on display, though, are a fitting snapshot of design trends (recycled materials, prefab, CNC fabrication, etc.) that are at the margins but not outside or considered avant-garde, kinda like DUMBO itself.

Architects were represented by two firms: Nandinee Phookan Architect's new subsidiary I Make Studio and Garrison Architects, hawking their series of modular residences (urban, townhouse, rural/suburban). The latter's Nzinga Townhomes in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood are supposedly going ahead with construction at a time when many projects are stalled. Perhaps future BKLYN DESIGNS will see architects stepping into territory typically tread by furniture makers and designers who create pricey objects, but ones still much cheaper than architectural creations. It certainly couldn't hurt a profession in need of not only clients but justifying itself in the face of such.

And many new are coming every day, especially on the site of designboom.

But my favoritepiece of furniture is the pure white cabinet designed for Bd Barcelona by the French graphic designers Antoine & Manuel. It tells stories through its carved doors and unusual legs. I expected it to be a great success. It was exhibited for the first time in Paris Maison et Objet this January, with a great success of attendance.

I also acclaim the "More" furniture system by Giorgio Caporaso idea for modular unit that can easily
be joined without the use of specific tools, to make a bookshelf, a table, a chair or a separating unit. It can be made of cardboard, too. It is an example of good Recession-Friendly Design. Which, to my regret, not always means high aesthetic value.

But Regenesi's mandate is to use only post-consumer materials treated with original processing techniques that allow for the same quality standards associated with virgin raw materials. With Regenesi's products are connected the names of designers such as Denis Santachiara, Matali Crasset, Setsu and Shinobu Ito, Giulio Iacchetti and Marco Ferreri, and products include this basket made from regenerated leather and the Fruit Bag by Setsu and Shinobu Ito. Regenesi will be exhibiting at FuoriSalone in Milan next month.

Mashable NextUp NYCThe second Mashable NextUp NYC is almost here! The next event in the series is titled Lessons from the Local Internet Startup Community, and focuses on lessons learned by 4 New York-based web startups: Snooth, Behance, Savvy Auntie and Aviary.

The evening event takes place on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at 92Y Tribeca, 92nd Street Y’s arts and entertainment venue. We’ll have networking, a presentations session from the startups and a panel moderated by Mashable’s Editor-in-Chief, Adam Ostrow.

One of my favorite aspects of the design world is when talented artists and designers come together to put on an event for a cause and DIFFA is the perfect example for just that. The Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS is launching their 12th National Tour of DINING BY DESIGN tomorrow in New York City where thousands of supporters will come together to enjoy the breathtaking installations that the top photographers, architects, fashion, consumer product, and interior designers have put together for this amazing event.

Founders Patricia Green and Larry Pond started this organization in 1984 and since then DIFFA has granted millions of dollars to hundreds of HIV/AIDS focused groups that engage in preventive education, patient treatment, and public policy. On top of supporting a great cause, this gives supporters a great opportunity to experience a collection of fine design that is appreciated by everyone.
